At around age of 17 to the age of 25 wisdom teeth start appearing,
sometimes due to less space in the mouth the wisdom teeth get impacted
inside and need to be removed, this is where the hard part
is. Removing wisdom teeth can be comparatively painless but the post
surgery can be painful, people experience pain which varies from mild
to excruciating. These molars are very problematic and at one point of
time in their life, most people have to get them removed.
Wisdom teeth can get impacted i.e. the tooth does not come out of
the gum and stays inside the gum line because of less space in the
jaw. This can pose a lot of problems in the long run so the doctors
suggest to get them removed even if these teeth do not show signs of
any kind of infection. These teeth if impacted under the gum line can
grow bigger and the roots will get denser posing a threat of
infection, getting wisdom teeth pulled as early as possible is the
only best way.
Prior to the surgery the dentist takes down the medical history and
prescribes some pills, which probably ease of the nervousness before
the surgery. If the wisdom teeth are not impacted, a local anesthesia
is given and the surgery is over in 10-15 minutes whereas if wisdom
teeth are impacted a higher dose of anesthesia is given and the
patient becomes unconscious, this surgery usually takes around 45
minutes to get over. The dentist may take the patient to a procedure
room where the blood pressure and pulse is taken, and then the
anesthetic procedure will start by making the patients mouth numb by
injecting deadening agent in various spots of mouth.
Getting wisdom teeth pulled can become messy sometime if the
dentist and the patient do not take proper care. Once the teeth are
removed by using a drill or simply by pulling the gum out is stitched
back by the dentist and a gauge is packed inside the socket after the
removal of the teeth.
The patient is allowed to go home and discharged the same day,
after getting wisdom teeth pulled the patient has to follow a long
rather bothersome course of special medications to ease the pains and
the intake of food has to be taken care of. Dentist may prescribe a
higher dosage of antibiotics and painkillers to relieve the patient
from the excruciating pain and a regular follow up is necessary to
check for complications after the surgery if there are any. The food
taken should be light and non-spicy, chilled drinks, ice creams,
shakes are advised and hot food should not be consumed at any cost. If
the food gets inside the socket while recuperating, the socket becomes
extremely painful that is why it is advised to consume food with less
grain and more of liquids. The mouth will have to be cleaned with the
cleansing agents if not brushing, since it will be painful.
